freshly cut white bread with real butter, none of this pretend rubbish, thick cut bacon, crispy edges and brown sauce mmmmm!!! Next question - steak, cooked to death or rarer than rare? I like mine just chucked in the pan turned and on the plate (sorry bit of a vampire when it comes to steak). Curries shouldn't be creamy, but should be hot, but not enough to murder your taste buds.

No idea Frances, but I take a 12/14 depending where I shop. I never weigh myself - life is too short. I think you've guessed I love food, but I walk about 8 miles a day at least and run around after the kids too.

Yes I remember both Muffin the Mule and Lambchop. It was John Mills's sister who did Muffin the mule. I remember once when Lambchop's head fell off during the performance. I laughed for a week. I have just been reading the banter on here and had to laugh when I read Anon saying there were only 4 channels 'back then'. I can remember only having one channel. People in the street knew you had a tv because of the big H aerial on your chimney. You got friends from nowhere! The living room would be packed with adults in the evening, bringing their own chairs. My dad bought a 2nd hand tv for £20 (a small fortune in those days) it had a 9 inch screen and it went back about a metre on the old sideboard we had in our house. Every night when all the kids were in bed the adults would come round. People would bring 'pop' and crisps, apples etc., just for the privilege of watching. If it went wrong for some reason a large thump with a fist was the answer. 5.00pm was childrens' hour and all our friends used to come and watch - you could have heard a pin drop. We were very poor and so were all the kids in my neighbourhood. If they were absent from school it was because they had no shoes to wear.

My information was meant to be informative not grumpy. I am never grumpy, I have no reason to be. Did you enjoy the film? Where we have our holiday home in Yorkshire we watched the filming of Hornblower from our window. They were firing the cannon too. It was quite funny seeing this little rowing boat with the camera crew attempting to film this great ship; it must have been hell for them. They keep the ship moored at Whitby and you can walk around it.

You still should be on grumpy old women........The film was pretty good though historical dramas can be a little heavy for me. I went to Whitby once with my brother who was living in leeds at the time. It was supposed to be a wind surfing day but the wind was elsewhere that day and watching him trying to 'get up' on a millpond like sea was really funny!

I managed to get the RSPCA to take it in. I had to drive an hour there and an hour back, and when I returned home TBone said that a colleague in his office would have liked to have it! I could have hit him. It was really cute and I got quite fond of it, I was sorry to see it go, but I couldn't care for it, it wouldn't have been fair to have it here as the foxes would have got it. Anyway it should go to a good home.

Talking about chickens, can anyone remember the computer game Chucky Egg? If I remeber rightly, it came on a cassette tape which had to be put into a tape recorder (specially made to use with computers) and you played it on a BBC Micro computer. I work as a receptionist for a motor dealer. Used to be sales but with the wee one the hours were all wrong.

I know what you mean Kirsty, with that and the cost of child care, that's why I've taken a couple of years out, it drives me mad being stuck at home at times, don't get me wrong I love my kids, but sometimes I miss the camaradarie I had at work and childcare for 2 was costing me a grand a month. I'm going into teaching when my youngest starts school next year, at least I won't need to work during the hols

Loobie I would take time out in a flash but I am on my own so I need to work. Although saying that the powers that be are messing with benefits and if they go down much more I won't be able to afford to go to work. Childcare costs a bomb!

I know what you mean Frances, trouble is as much as I love my own two, I'm not the mumsy type and I think child minding would drive me ga ga, apart from that my house is far to small to come up to regulations.

Loobie I can relate to that, I do the avfternoon school run to collect my neice and OMG does she just get to me sometimes and she is family, I love her to bits but can be so AAARRRGGGHHH. Cant think of a better word for it. Good idea Frances but other peoples kids would have me in the loony bin.

I can understand that as I have always worked. I couldn't look after someone elses child either. But in my day the child care appeared to be reasonable compared to what they have to pay today; but don't you get help with it now? You got help with it then and you didn't get child benefit for the first child either, so it was a struggle.

You do get help and I was going along fine but now with no fatherly contribution for the last 8 months then they reduced my benefit by nearly 500squid last month. When I called about it it seemed to be an error, ie. based on last years p60. I now earn less than half what i did last year. So they have said now that I am entitled to more than the error amount but less than the previous amount however it will now be averaged over the remaining months as no back payments will be made. So realistically I have to absorb no income from father and a sudden and unexpected missing 500. Its getting really tough now.

You do get some help, but not enough to absorb a grands worth of childcare a month, I was also working 10-12 hours a day and nurseries and childminders just don't provide the hours you need when you work for the NHS (I worked originally in maternity then in complaints) and of course when you often have to put in late nights and weekends even on the admin side of things nowhere covers that which is even more difficult when your husband works away!! It's been hard financially, but at least I get tosee my children, before, I would drop them at nursery at 715 and hubby would pick them up and they were often in bed when I got home.
